Bearcat Study Pal wins Cloudforce Best Agent

By Thomas Scherz

The Bearcat Study Pal wins the Cloudforce Frontier Award for Best Agent. The Frontier Awards recognize leaders driving meaningful impact with AI across industries.

The Bearcat Study Pal demonstrates some of the most innovative and pedagogically grounded AI agents in higher education today. Study Pal is not a simple chatbot. It is a multi-agent system built on an agentic workflow that orchestrates three distinct agents : a base agent, a genius agent, and a test prepper agent which working in concert to provide a holistic study companion for UC students.

What makes the design exceptional is its pedagogical philosophy designed by Dr. Valentine Johns. Rather than simply answering questions, Study Pal employs the Socratic method, guiding students through the learning process with structured questions that build critical thinking and genuine understanding. Study Pal is only one chapter of a much larger story.

Thomas Scherz and the UC Enablement Team have delivered over 100 custom agents at UC spanning everything from course-specific Socratic tutoring experiences to accessibility tools that empower staff to create accessible versions of their documents. Along with developing agents, he and Anisa Longe have toured every college at the university to speak in person about the transformative power of AI and have worked one-on-one with professors and academic units to build agents tailored to their specific needs.

We would like to recognize and congratulate all the members of the Bearcat Study Pal development team:
Thomas Scherz, Dr. Valentine Johns, Akash Nallagonda, Shivam Kharangate, and Samrat Ghartist
