UC AI Symposium Highlights Cross-Campus Leadership and Innovation

The University of Cincinnati’s recent AI Symposium brought together faculty, staff, students, and industry partners for a dynamic day of dialogue, learning, and collaboration focused on advancing AI across higher education.

The event reflected UC’s continued commitment to building an ethical, secure, and forward-thinking AI ecosystem through the Bearcat AI Ready initiative and the AI Enablement Community of Practice (AIECOP).

Keynote Address: AI in Higher Education and Athletics

Keynote Panel: The State of AI in Higher Education

The second keynote featured a panel discussion facilitated by Dr. Kelly Cohen, Brian H. Rowe Endowed Chair in Aerospace Engineering and President of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society.

Panelists included:

  • Erik Maston, Purdue University - AI leadership and institutional strategy
  • Chris Carper, T | Cloud + AI - Enterprise cloud and AI modernization
  • Michael Zidar, UC Adjunct Professor and innovation leader
  • Josette Riep, AVP for Digital Technology Solutions and PhD Candidate focused on Ethical and Transparent AI and student success

The discussion addressed the current landscape of AI in higher education, governance and policy considerations, workforce readiness, and strategies to ensure institutions move forward in a coordinated, responsible manner.

Community Leadership and Collaboration

The AI Symposium was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the AI Enablement Community of Practice (AIECOP), which played a key role in reviewing and selecting breakout session presenters. Their stewardship ensures that AI initiatives across UC remain aligned with responsible AI principles, academic excellence, and enterprise needs.

Special recognition is also extended to the Digital Technology Solutions (DTS) volunteers who organized and coordinated the event. Their leadership and dedication were instrumental in delivering a seamless and impactful experience.
